Little Criminals

Patron was awful for the farrier.  I was embarassed...he wasn't nearly this rotten the last time he was trimmed.  Jim says, its the nature of the beast.  I really hate that we ended up with him being trimmed on the ground.  Not cool...  Jack Jack stood like a champ.  He saw the mess with his brother and thought he'd take the high road I guess.  I was thankful!!

 Apparently it didn't hurt Patrons' feelings that things didn't go smoothly, because he was still following me around last night a feed time.  Turning his butt to me for a scratching...crazy little donkey!!  They make me smile, even when I'm mad at them!

Rant

 I totally love my farrier.  As he is working on my horses we chat.  We chat about his wifes sport horses,  their mini, his morgan hunting horse, and anything else that comes up. 

While we were finishing up with Horse Girl, I got the Land Lord's mule Tequilla out for a trim.  This is where we both got heated up...she is more or less a victim of neglect...

The Land Lord had a friend borrow Tequilla last June.  He returned the mule and she sat for the rest of the summer enjoying the good life.  But the shoes weren't pulled... The Land Lord had his farrier out for the big mules and for his horses.  I had mine out for my girls and donkeys.  The shoes stayed on... I asked the Land Lord if he wanted me to have Tequilla done while Jim was out last (November).  He told me nope, he would have his guy do her when he had the Big Mules snow shoes put on.  Fair enough.

Fast forward to January.  I say to the Land Lord that Tequilla still has shoes on and its hard to keep the snow out of her shoes...he says oh, I forgot to get her taken care of when Brett was out in Dec.  Uh, NO REALLY...I HADN'T NOTICED.  But he says he will have someone get to her ASAP. 

When the weather got really good in Febuary he had shoes put on Tony.  I said hey did Brett forget about Tequilla.  He says no, I did...but I will call my buddy Jerry out...he will help us out. 

Now here we are in March and Jerry shows up, but the weather is terrible.  He and the Land Lord end up tying one on in the cabin due to poor weather conditions...even though there is pleanty of room in the hay barn for that little mule and the owner and farrier....but the Land Lord swears that he hasn't forgotten  about the little mule.

Finally, I have my spring appointment for my herd. (Cancelled several times...but we finally made this one!!)  I decide that I am going to get this handled because for whatever reason the Land Lord just can't.  Now he owes me for the trim.... $35.  I am soooo pissed at him.  I will not miss this shit when Chad and I get our own place...

M-Kitty is so disgusted!!  Yikes!!  She would also like to point out that she noticed that all the shoes but one held on the entire time...that really chaps her hide!!

But boy did they try...herding turkeys is hard Abbi says!!

They never got close to Horse Girl either...but it sure woke everyone up this morning!!

Hippity Hop

We started out by looking for the Easter Bunny on Sunday morning...unfortunately, Kage and Abbi found him first and put the run on him before I could get any chocolate eggs...  Oh, well...my waistline is in need of a caloric intake reduction.  That is something I will be working on beginning this week...lovely!

After finding the dogs had run off the Easter Bunny, Chad and I decided to get down to the nitty gritty of getting the tree off of the horse trailer.

In the beginning, the peanut gallery wasn't the least bit interested in what we were doing.  The weather has been awful here of late, so they enjoyed themselves in the sun and just give us an ear here and there depending on the noises coming from our side of the pasture.  It was nice to be able to get some things done without their noses in my back.

So we let the chainsaw loose!

We also got the tractor involved...it was all the tractor could do to move this larger portion of the tree.  It bogged down not too much farther down the road.  So we made our "log deck" there.  It will be easy for the land lord to saw up for fire wood this summer.  I suspect this could be some of the most expensive fire wood he has ever burned!!  (He has checked with the insurence company and the horse trailer isn't covered!!)

The tree landed squarely on this post...it drove it down into the ground about 4 1/2 to 5 ft into the ground.  The nail you can see held on the top rail of the fence.  Pretty interesting...the hole isn't oblong or molested in any way...  Oh, the power of Mother Nature!!  ( :

Towards the end of our work day the smallest members of the peanut gallery decided it was time to come over and give their two cents worth.  I just love these two criminals!!

Of course the larger nuts were soon to follow!!

The gallery got a little goofy when we pulled the last bit of tree through the hole on the fence...all in a days work!!

This is the end result for today.  We still have some clean up to do, fence to replace, and we need to figure out how to get the tree from its root bundle and the top of the trailer.  Next weekend maybe we can get the majority of that handled.  I will work on the clean up after work everyday until its done.  No reason to rush it!!  ( :
